Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a home remodel, whole-home renovation, or ADU? Below are answers to common questions about permits, timelines, design coordination, and working with R.C.R Contractors throughout San Francisco, the Peninsula, and the Bay Area.

Many remodeling projects that involve structural changes, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, or changes to the existing layout require permits. ADU projects also require applicable building approvals. Some purely cosmetic improvements may not require the same level of permitting.

R.C.R Contractors reviews the project scope early, identifies the permits and inspections that may be required, and coordinates the construction process so the work is completed in accordance with approved plans and applicable building requirements.

The timeline depends on the type of ADU, completeness of the plans, property conditions, and whether revisions or additional agency reviews are required. For qualifying state-mandated ADUs, San Francisco currently requires the City to approve or deny a complete application within the applicable 60-day review period.

The overall pre-construction timeline can still be longer when design development, corrections, engineering, historic considerations, or additional approvals are involved. We help coordinate the process and keep the project moving as efficiently as possible.

Yes. Some clients come to us with completed architectural and interior design plans, while others contact us earlier in the planning process. We can work directly with your architect, designer, engineer, and other project professionals to coordinate the construction details and translate the design into the finished project.

When additional design professionals are needed, we can also help connect homeowners with qualified architects and designers appropriate for the project.

Yes. We manage major residential remodeling projects through the construction process, including scheduling, trade coordination, inspections, material logistics, site management, quality control, and final completion.

For larger renovations, our goal is to give homeowners one organized point of coordination while maintaining clear communication between the client, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and everyone involved in the project.

Every project is different. The schedule depends on the size of the home, structural work, permitting, design complexity, custom materials, existing conditions, and the extent of the renovation.

After reviewing the plans and project scope, we develop a construction schedule with major phases and milestones so homeowners understand how the project is expected to progress before construction begins.
